Our Mission Statement: To enhance the quality of life of senior adults in our community through recreation, information, education and nutritional services, including health and wellness programs.
Organization: MCSAA is organized as a 501(c) non-profit charitable organization. Donations are tax deductible. The organization's articles of incorporation and by-laws are available at The Center.
Mason County Senior Activities Center: Our facility is 5,000 square feet. We are located in downtown Shelton, WA at 826 Railroad Ave. Individuals and groups take part in programs, activities and services which support their independence and encourage their involvement in the community.
Hours: We are open from 8am to 4pm Monday through Thursday and 8am to 3pm Fridays. The Center is closed on most national holidays; see the Activity Calendar for details. Our Center is staffed by loyal volunteers who serve as receptionists at the front desk.
Membership: Member dues are just $15 per person per calendar year. Membership is open to anyone age 50 and better and is required to participate in all the activities, classes and special events. Activities listed in the Community Services section below do not require membership. Our monthly newsletter "Active Living," is mailed to all members. As a member, you are eligible to vote in the annual election of directors.
Special Needs: The Center does not provide services that would normally be provided by a trained attendant, nurse or personal care giver (e.g. incontinence, inability to use the restroom by one's self, dementia, disruptive behavior, or wandering). The provision of any personal care by staff for a participant is beyond our capacity and cannot be expected. Those seniors with special needs may be eligible for the Adult Day Center program, STARS at 360-943-6181 for further information.
Volunteers: MCSAA staff at both the Center and Nifty Thrifty is supported by loyal volunteers who serve as elected board members, receptionists at the front desk, Center hosts, office assistants, project coordinators, and other special activities. Please contact the Center Director or Activities Coordinator if interested in volunteering. All volunteers must pass a WSP background check and organization screening.
Nifty Thrifty Store: Your Hometown Thrift Store, started in 1988 and continues to be the major on-going funding source for the Center. See the Nifty Thrifty Store page for more details.
Center Gift Store: Handmade quilts, knitted, crocheted, and sewn items made by our own members. Used paperback and hard back books are also available for purchase. All proceeds support the Center's operations budget.
Weather Policy: When inclement weather hits our area, KMAS Radio (1030 AM) announces any adjusted hours. MCSAA generally follows the Shelton School District's schedule. If they close, we close; if they have a delayed start, we will too.
